Fastnet Sails is established since 2003.

Christophe Houdaille: Sail making has been my very first job, more for the interest I had for it than for the money. My first boss tried to discourage me from entering the profession:  “too hard and not well paid”. As I kept coming, he then taught me as much as he could. After this, I build up sailing experience, heading off for 8 years living on board my cruiser, mainly single handed. I covered nearly 100,000 nautical miles mainly in the far south oceans, spending months or years in the Falkland, South Georgia and Kerguelen Islands. For such long and tough cruising, you need durable sails.

Three books have been published by Transboreal : Iles des Quarantiemes, Au vent des kerguelen, Le chant des voiles. Those books written in french are available at our loft.

Back in France I returned to Sail Making, before moving to Ireland. After a few years in West Cork I decided to create my own company. There has been a warm welcome to the new business and we have established a good, friendly relationship with many clubs and sailing schools.

Since then we have been supplying sails to yachtsmen and many organisations. We also worked on various special projects: we manufactured a set of 5 sails for a 25 metre converted trawler. Heavy duty work due to the size of the boat. We also supply sails for boat builders and dinghy sails for the local sailing school.
